OPU (London branch) history

Bursary Prize

The OPU London branch Bursary Prize was established some ten years ago during the Presidency of John Brady, with a personal donation from John himself and additional contributions from various members of the London Committee. There were also generous lump sum contributions from Liam Strong and Hubert Schaafsma.

The Bursary Prize sponsors a second pupil from the School to accompany the Headmaster and head boy to attend the annual OPU London branch dinner. We hope that by coming to London and meeting the diverse group that attends the dinner, (many of whom have had impressive international careers), the Bursary Prize winner will be inspired to ‘spread their wings’ and encourage them to include mainland UK as a potential for a university education and England as a place for a subsequent career.

Currently, the prize winner receives £250 cash, awarded to a sixth form pupil for special and outstanding achievement. The selection of the prize winner is in the gift of the Headmaster. Over the years the winners have beena terrific group of young people who have added immensely to the spirit of the London dinner.

We hope some of you may consider making a contribution to the Bursary Prize funds.
